Passive Skills - Give us some more variety!(1)Category: BarbarianJune-12-2014 4:23 PM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
TL;DR: Most passives are either more damage or more survival. What interesting suggestions would you have for passive skills for your class?

This is coming from a Barbarians perspective, but I feel it affects most classes. If you go to diablo somepage you'll find that everyone uses the same 5-6 passives, and they all center around either MORE DAMAGE or MORE SURVIVE!

Aren't you guys bored of seeing small variations on the same builds? I am. It's just about who can run T6 rifts the fastest.
"MY LEAPQUAKE BUILD USES NO SPENDER! MY LEAPQUAKE BUILD USES SEISMIC SLAM! MY LEAPQUAKE BUILD USES HOTA!"

That's not really variety.

Do any barbs ever even worry about max fury? Maybe boulder toss build? Who really cares about thorns damage? Let us get creative. Change our passives and we'll show YOU how great our classes can be. Here are some of my suggestions, numbers and scaling can be changed so my focus was intended on creating some interesting synergies.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/nerves-of-steel could synergize with
the relentless passive by increasing damage by a % of life missing (you may see relentless, http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/shi-mizus-haori using maniacs in T6) via life and life% stacking

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/relentless Could be changed to provide UP TO 50% less damage and 75% less fury cost at 35% life, and give that feeling of becoming a berserker as your life slips away, but provide some benefit if you're full HP (5% less dmg 10% fury cost sound about right?)

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/tough-as-nails ...two passive slots for effectively the same bonus? The thorns damage aspect was a good idea at release, so are you going to encourage thorns or not? If so buff it up and let us get creative.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/inspiring-presence we have a shout for this, presence to me, means just me being there. 10% damage buff to self, 5% for allies within 50 yards, DOUBLED IN WoTB, Ignore Pain could return some small amount of health to my party when fury spenders used(similar to rune)

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/juggernaut sounds awesome...meh, why not make it synergize with Raekor's set as well giving a damage bonus for number of targets hit with charge? Or when you reach 0 life have a small Arreat's Wail effect, return to 50% life(obvious cooldown needs to be implemented) with a small attack speed, move speed, or some other buff. Again, would synergize with berserker rage, relentless, inspiring presence, and give that feeling of being an unstoppable(and it says it right in the passive "there is no stopping them") wildman in the mix of battle.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/sword-and-board Why no extra damage when shield equipped or ATTACKS generate 6 more fury, etc

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/pound-of-flesh Gain 10/20/30% primary resource from health globes/crits/stuns whatever...current bonus is doo doo.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/class/barbarian/passive/berserker-rage could give %damage based on how full your fury bar is, rewarding full fury play, but also ~50% damage buff for ~50% resource globe

Pulled from Diablo Somepage, the numbers here represent what barbarians most used passives are, it's no surprise to me since I use them as well and basically any random barb I run rifts/bounties with does too, but they're just the same boring damage increase passives.

Lower 75%
1 Unforgiving 64.18
2 Weapons Master 61.56
3 Rampage 52.19
4 Bloodthirst 37.44
5 Superstition 31.38

Top 25%
1 Weapons Master 62.46
2 Rampage 55.68
3 Unforgiving 55.32
4 Superstition 39.49
5 Bloodthirst 36.74

Hardcore
1 Unforgiving 61.20
2 Superstition 52.79
3 Weapons Master 47.93
4 Rampage 42.15
5 Bloodthirst 32.26

I'm not a number cruncher, developer, or top mind, and I know this isn't a barbarian specific issue either, every other class just tends to find the best combination of "MOAR DAMAEGE!" and I'll agree my suggestions are "MOAR DAMAGE" but with 15 options of increasing damage vs 3 or 4 it opens up a world of opportunity for interesting builds, and the "Weapons Master/Rampage/Ruthless/Brawler" passives would be used to augment their primary build types.

What do you guys think? What type of passives would you like to see for your class?

Thanks for taking the time to write this up, and there are some creative ideas in here. I'm going to move this thread over to the Barbarian forums, since it seems better suited for that neck of the woods. Also, I'll be sure to pass it along for you!
