Extreme memory usage issue(1)Category: Technical SupportJune-7-2014 11:11 AM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hey guys, I've just gotten a new computer. It's not the best machine in the world, but it's all that I was able to afford, and it works extremely well, especially in comparison to my old laptop. I now get triple, if not sometimes, quadruple the FPS in-game, and I'm really enjoying it.

However, I'm having a major issue. Before I go further, I'll post my computer's specs:

So, as you can see, I'm not in particularly bad shape, but it's not the best. The issue I'm having is, after awhile of gameplay, I'll get an error telling me my system is running out of memory. I have tried taking certain steps in assuring this doesn't happen, but nothing seems to work.

My attempted solutions (all failed):
  • Close all programs running in the background (Firefox, Mumble, Skype, etc.)
  • End processes of things such as iTunes Helper, or MS Windows Search Assistant, that aren't really being used.
  • Disabling explorer.exe (getting rid of my taskbar/desktop)
  • Turning my processor's power down to only use 90-95%
  • Still, my game will play fine for quite some time, and then it'll randomly give me the error that too much memory is being used, and if ignored, my computer will proceed to shut off, and give me the screen saying, "Sorry, something went wrong, please wait while we send this information to Microsoft :(".

This issue does mainly occur when I have Skype running in the background alongside Diabo III. Which is still strange, considering how lightweight Skype is. The simple combination of Skype and D3 should not run through my memory like that, should it? When not on Skype, I'm usually live streaming using XSplit, and I use this in conjunction with iTunes and Adobe Photoshop, and I have almost no issues. I do say, "almost", because every once in awhile I'll get the same error, which tells me Diablo 3:RoS is the root of the problem.

If anyone could offer any assistance, I'd be extremely grateful. Thank you!

    peanutjesus,

Are you running the game at the same resolution that your desktop is set to run at?

There's an issue with Windows 8.1 that will cause this symptom if you run a game at a different res than the desktop.
