FPS Drops and causes client to crash.(1)Category: Technical SupportMay-11-2014 7:06 AM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hello and Good Morning,

I am finally resorting to posting a help post here on the forms because I've grown very tired of my client crashing while playing Diablo 3. At first I was convinced my graphics card was not handling duel monitors very well and while playing would drop FPS so low that the client crashes so, I disabled my second monitor for a few days to test. The client did not crash "as much" but did crash a several times. It appears the second monitor is not causing the issue. The crashing is very random and can occur several times in a row or once every hour or so and on good days once in a 6 hour time frame.

Here is my DxDiag information, Thank you in advance.

Here is the error shown in D3Debug.txt I've decided to cut and paste the error information because I was playing public games and other BattleTags are being shown and it was a hassle to remove them all.

DestruX,

Let's try a different video driver to see if that helps. Uninstall the current driver by using a program called Driver Fusion. This program will ensure that all previous driver files are completely removed.

Here's a link to the Driver Fusion download.

Once there, click on the "Download From Treexy" button to download the free trial.

***Don't download the Premium version.***

1. Run Driver Fusion.
2. Click on "Display" and select "Nvidia".
3. Click on "Delete".
4. You will be asked if you are sure if you want to delete the entries, click on "Yes".
5. Driver Fusion will do it's job, but you may see a message saying that some entries could not be deleted, and it will then ask if you would like to take a look at premium benefits, click on "No".
6. Restart when asked do so.
7. Repeat the same steps for "PhysX" instead of "Display".

Once those two are completely removed, go ahead and install the suggested driver.

Here's a link for the new driver download: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/73218/en-us

When you are going to install the driver I would like for you to select Custom Install > Graphic Driver only.

Insayne,

I don't suggest it because it's convenient. I tried the recent versions of Driver Fusion on my own systems at home after I received some reports of malware, and I had no problems at all. However, I did notice that it's not as user friendly as it used to be. I've seen the tool you linked before, but I haven't had a chance to try it out myself, but I'll keep it in mind.

Btw, does the developer of that tool have an actual site or just the one you linked?

Nalizan,

The one I linked is the one that seems to be the most stable out of the current drivers. I haven't really heard too much on the beta, but I usually stay away from those. I've seen reports of the official driver that came out before the beta causing some random issues.

DestruX,

There appears to be a bug that is causing some crashes. There is a suggested workaround that may help minimize the crashes.

Try this out and let me know what happens:

1. Launch Diablo III and click on the "Game menu" button located on the lower right.
2. Select "Options".
3. Select "Sound".
4. Locate the "Speaker Setup" drop down menu.
5. Select "Stereo" in the dropdown and hit Accept.
