L2P: How to Enjoy Diablo 3(1)Category: GeneralMay-6-2014 3:34 PM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Its obvious that plenty of people know how to play D3, but it seems that far fewer actually know how to enjoy the game for what it. I see dozens of posts about builds, min/maxing, the best way to farm items, etc. Many players are well versed in these topics. No doubt, they have a great grasp of game mechanics, and can therefore be classified as "good" at the game. That being said, I can't help but notice that there is also a great deal of complaining going on. I would like to provide an ideological fix for this widespread epidemic of QQ-itis.

First of all, you must quit farming. Now, you know you are addicted to farming if your first response to this statement was, "But its D3. What else is there to do?" This my friends is the root of your suffering. D3 has a fantastic combat system with enough layers of difficulty that games can be tailored to provide you with challenges that you can overcome. No matter what gear you have or what spec you choose, each game can always provide entertaining battles and opportunities for strategy, both for individuals and for team play. While it is true that finding legendaries is nice, especially game changers that allow for new playstyles, they are not the end all be all of D3.

At its core, this game has the potential to be highly skill oriented, and it is the development of that skill that is the most fun. This is doubly true in hardcore, where the punishment for mistakes is steep. It is this, the challenge of clearing a rift (or even a set of bounties) that push you to your limit that provides true gaming satisfaction. If you play with this mindset, you will find that your desire to QQ about the RNG will vanish. Legs become icing on a cake rather then !@#$%^ in a syringe.

You will not time how long it takes to clear a rift, nor how many hits it takes to kill trash mobs, or how many seconds it takes to take down a pack of elites. To the contrary, if things are too easy, you will find yourself increasing the difficulty to a more appropriate level. The word "efficiency" will cease to have meaning and you will begin to use the word "farming" to describe the act of produing food on a large scale. I can attest that this philosophy will greatly improve the quality of your D3 experience.

This is an interesting thread with a lot of well constructed arguments, and it's definitely a subject I think about often. Obviously, the answer to this question is highly subjective, and I don't believe there is a single right answer. I like reading everyone's opinion on the matter, though, and I hope this discussion goes on.
