diablo 3 blackscreens my pc(1)Category: Technical SupportOctober-8-2014 10:43 AM PDT (8 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I know this is a rather ambiguous question but wondering if anyone knows a solution or a point in the right direction. My graphics card keeps dying, particularly when playing diablo 3. Sometimes the card restarts the drivers (says nvidiasomething.dll has crashed and had to restart) but recently it just black screens and doesnt work once i restart, i have to leave it an hour or so. My initial thoughts are overheating but i dont see it go past 60 degrees ever. Im running a GTX560Ti on an i5 2500k (i think thats the model) - any help diagnosing it would be greatfully received. Thank you

Silico,

Lowering the in-game video settings may help.

After trying that, if it still occurs, please post your dxdiag info and D3Prefs.txt file.

You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Your D3Prefs.txt file is located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Silico,

Try running the processor at the manufacturer's settings and not overclocked.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~4.5GHz

Remove any overclocking you're doing if any to the gpu and ram as well.

What you're experiencing is called a TDR error. They can be tricky to resolve but unstable overclocks can be a common cause so we'll want to rule that out first.

Here's a link to a forum post at Nvidia I'd recommend reading. It goes into a lot of detail on what a TDR error is, what can cause it, and what might resolve it.
