Soul Crucible GPU overheating(1)Category: Technical SupportMarch-25-2014 4:08 AM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Thanks to my gpu alarm I just noticed that my GPU temperatures during Soul Crucibe fights are getting extremely high - to the point it could damage the card (80+ Celsius). Apparently, the reason is that big black moving sphere on the screen. I tried different graphic settings but it seems it doesn't matter, everytime shader clocks are going haywire during this scene.

After crucible destroyed it goes back to normal. In other locations I am fine all the time. Anyone else is having this problem?

Could any of you posting about this symptom please post your D3Prefs.txt file?

It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Wyrmslayer,

Would you mind enabling the FPS limiter for foreground performance to maybe 30-40 or so and see if it makes a difference?

You should already be limited to 60 fps by having vertical sync enabled but I'd like to see if this helps any.

Also, I'm curious if lowering the Hardware Class affects it.

HardwareClass "5"

You're at 5 now, try it at 2. This will lower the graphical effects the game tries/has to perform.

Wyrm ,

In general terms, the game does a "self check" initially to see what hardware you have and gives it a hardware class value. The game uses that to determine what advanced graphics features it can use without appreciably affecting your performance. Forcing it to a lower value then will "limit" what features are used and in this case apparently, that helps with the encounter.

I'm afraid we don't have a list of the features and at what class they're turned on or off so I couldn't tell you what you might be missing.
