startup black screen with sound and cursor(1)Category: Technical SupportMarch-4-2014 3:06 PM PST (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
I just downloaded this patch 2.0.2 and when i start the game it's a black screen, with the music playing, and the mouse cursor is there. I have tried waiting to see if it finally shows, but nothing ever does. Is there a solution to this issue, am I the only one experiencing this?

st41n3r,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

st41n3r,

Could you try setting the game to run in windowed mode and see if it starts properly?

You can do that from outside the game by editing the D3prefs.txt file.

Change this line

DisplayModeWindowMode "0"

to

DisplayModeWindowMode "1"

The US region is still in maintenance as I write this so you won't be able to fully test out the game yet.

HowlinWulf,

You won't have the file unless the game has been installed and run at least once which creates it.

It may just be a typo but in your path description, you have "Documents" listed. It should be "My Documents".

If you do have the game installed, could you post the D3Debug.txt file from the main Diablo III game folder?
