Frame Rate issues(1)Category: Technical SupportFebruary-27-2014 9:43 AM PST (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hey guys, I downloaded the patch the other day and before the patch I was able to play the game at 40-50 fps no issues, now I'm only getting 19 fps or less. I have a friend that has the same computer as me and he is running 40-50 frames no problems. I ended up reformatting my computer thinking it might had been some melware, but that isn't the case. I have everything fresh now, and I'm still having the same issue. Any suggestion or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Another thing I forgot to mention is when I tab out of the game and I go to like firefox or check something in wowhead, when I get back to the game my framrates sky rocket to 80-90 for like 5 to 8 minutes then they drop back down drastically.

Frostyashell,

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste it ALL here.

Could you also post your D3Prefs.txt file? It's located in the My Documents\Diablo III folder.

Frostyashell,

Since you've reformatted and your Windows 7 isn't on Service Pack 1, there's a good chance you haven't run Windows Update yet so I'd do that to make sure you've gotten all of Microsoft's updates for the OS, including Service Pack 1. You'll need to run it more than once until it stops making recommendations. While this may not help with the frame rates, it's still a necessary step to take.

To address your performance problem, I'd start by running in selective startup so as to limit any other applications that are set to auto-run at startup. One or more could be sapping your system resources while playing.
