Wifes account banned.... again?!?!(1)Category: GeneralDecember-11-2013 12:14 AM PST (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
We used to play DIII regularly with some friends just fun on occasions, and admittedly we do not play it much anymore but just a few weeks ago we got a email stating and I quote:

"A user of this account has recently been involved in actions deemed inappropriate for Diablo III by the In-Game Support staff of Blizzard Entertainment. This decision was made after a thorough investigation of the situation as a whole. Though we are unable to discuss the outcomes of our investigations due to privacy concerns, rest assured that this incident has been looked into very thoroughly, and the appropriate actions have been taken on all involved accounts."

It goes on to describe what a cheat program or hack is .... unapproved 3rd party software..... etc.... etc....

I went thru the whole song and dance of changing passwords to ridiculously difficult paswords and th same for her Battle.net account...

just after the customer service tech says that her account has been rolled back and fixed we get the same exact email less than a week later....

Are you telling me that Blizzards infrastructure security is so poor and has enough exploits that her account can be compromised again in less than a week?

Something really needs to be done as I spent good money to get her the collectors edition DIII set and I dont think its fair that I cannot even get a straight answer as to what the alleged offense was.

This is complete crap and completely unfair to a paying customer that I can buy a product and they can just shut it off without any proof provided to me of anything.

This smells very much like class action lawsuit material and while my account is still active it makes me very disappointed that my company spends so much money promoting SCII if said support goes to funding the type of treatment my wife and myself are receiving.

I purchased a product, it is not my fault Blizzard cannot secure their database, and it should be their responsibility to find and fix issues caused by their own lacking, we as customers should not pay the price.

As has been previously described, discussion of account actions are not permitted on the forums. Please contact our Customer Support for additional assistance.

In addition, MissCheetah has provided excellent and accurate advice, and for sake of reiteration, I'll quote it here.

and as for an authenticator, I must ask, why is it necessary to add a extra authentication method which also has been compromised times before....

Authenticators have NOT been compromised. Individuals have installed man-in-the-middle malware, but the actual auth has not been compromised. Adding one would be wise because you have an issue with security on YOUR end. Blizzard did not give away your wife's user name and password. It happened because of malware on your system or a response to a phishing email..etc.

Antivirus alone is not enough to secure a system....you need malware protection too. I am sorry, but you really need to place blame where it belongs or it will keep happening over and over.

You need to:
1. Clean the malware off your PC (likely way you got hacked)
2. Regain access to, and control of, your account
3. Request an account restoration/rollback (keep the restrictions in mind that are in the arcticle I linked.

To remove Malware:
1. Download, install, and update Malwarebytes (free version is fine). Boot into safe mode and run a FULL (not quick version) scan with the game up and gibberish in the login fields. Some malware only activates under those conditions.
2. When that scan is done, run a FULL virus scan with an updated virus scanner. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and decent these days. Some folks here also like Avast. Better than Nortons, MacAffee, etc.
3. From a PC you know to be free of malware, change your email password. Check it for forwarding as well. Sometimes hackers set up forwarding.

To regain account access:
Submit an account recovery form https://us.battle.net/account/support/account-recovery.html Do this ONLY after the PC is clean or they will just get more info about you.

Secure your battle.net account:
1. Change your bnet password again now that the PC is clean.
2. Create a new email that you use ONLY for battle.net and switch to it. Gmail is great because you can put two factor authentication on it and prevent hackers from logging in without a code.
3. Get an Authenticator!!!! The mobile device version is FREE and the keychain is only $6.50 in the US with free shipping.
4. Consider SMS Protect - this is not an Authenticator, but is a messaging service that lets you know about account changes and prevents some of them, such as an unauthorized email change.

Request a rollback:
Submit a ticket using this https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/solution/d3/266 D3 > I think I was hacked > I want to request a restoration

And if she still needs to get unbanned again https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/how-to-appeal
