Diablo 3 drop chances based on RNG or something else?(1)Category: GeneralApril-7-2014 3:03 PM PDT (9 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
All the info below applies to lvl 70 characters as characters under lvl 70 get more legendary drops than characters that are already lvl 70.

I've been monitoring how legendaries drop for a while now by watching my own drops and my clans. It seems or at least feels like there is no initial chance for legendaries to drop like there is no 0.1% chance for example for a legendary item to drop.

What I've gathered is that mostly legendary drops seem to be tied in time, varying from 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2-3 hours. And then switching it up to whatever. Usually people get their daily 1st legendary drop in under 30 minutes when playing solo T1 or higher. After that it varies from 30 minutes to 1 hour for the next one to drop. Most of the time at least.

So here's the interesting part. How can a game that for all we know is SUPPOSED to have a specific system or maybe chance for legendaries to drop. Give legendary drops so regularly based entirely on time? And also during the weekend I got roughly 15 legendaries on saturday and ~15 on sunday. Then I played 6-8 hours today and got total whoopping 1 legendary for the same time I spend running rifts on Saturday/Sunday. Is this again RNG or something entirely else? How can such major differences come to place when dealing with these drop rates. They make no sense, they seem to not be based around anything that is solved through common sense.

Here is something to think about, sorry that the text might be hard to read I'm not good with this kind of stuff and I've yet to crack this case how in the hell do the drop rates work. Please do share your opinions and do monitor the fact how fast your 1st legendary drops each day.

Trying to find out how the system works doesn't mean I need a tin-foil hat.

This is true.

So 1 leg per 2h, does not matter how efficient you are, how many monsters you kill in 2h and in what difficulty?

There is no such thing as a fixed legendary/hour ratio that increases with each difficulty setting, but that doesn't mean that efficiency does not matter, in fact efficiency matters a great deal. The legendary drop chances do increase for each difficulty setting (and there are also legendaries that only drop in the highest difficulties), but if you cannot play at torment difficulties efficiently, then your legendary drop count will not be as high as it potentially could be if you were able play at torment difficulties efficiently.

Another thing of course is the luck factor, which is hard to both quantity and adapt to, so can I totally understand it if you feel frustrated about being in a bad luck streak while those you play with at the same time are getting legendaries often.
