Diablo III Patch 2.1.0 Ready for Release

The patch goes live after maintenance on Tuesday, but Seasons arrive later

Diablo III Patch 2.1.0 - Breaking News
Diablo III Patch 2.1 is arriving soon. The patch is prepped and ready to go live on the Americas servers tomorrow, August 25. As seen above, the Diablo III client breaking news lists maintenance on Tuesday to apply patch 2.1.0. The servers will go down at 3AM Pacific time and maintenance is estimated to run until 1PM Pacific. Here is a look at the big features in patch 2.1, and the preliminary 2.1.0 patch notes from the PTR.

Previews for Patch 2.1.0
Here are the official previews of the major aspects of patch 2.1, along with developer philosophy and thoughts on the big changes in the patch.
  • PTR Patch 2.1.0 Patch Notes - The patch notes for patch 2.1.0, from the last patch on the PTR. The official patch notes will be updated from these with some changes and extra detail, but most everything will be the same.
  • Seasons Preview - Details on Season 1, which will likely start a few days after the patch arrives.
  • Greater Rifts Preview - A look at the new Greater Rifts, which build on the Nephalem Rift system with increasing difficulty, Legendary Gems, and more!
  • The Vault Preview - Patch 2.1 brings a new area, the home of the sneaky Treasure Goblins.
  • Patch 2.1.0 Philosophy and Legendary Change Explanation - The developers provided detailed explanations for the changes that are being made (or not made) throughout the patch.

Season 1 Not Immediate
Multiple blue posts confirmed that Season 1 will not start immediately after the patch is live. It will likely be a few days before the Season is activated. This gives time for all regions to receive the new patch, and for the developers to deal with potential issues that could cause problems in the Season, before it starts.

The Seasons feature itself will be implemented with patch 2.1 indeed, but it has yet to be announced exactly when we will flip the on-switch and start the first Season. Hopefully it won't be long now until that announcement is made though.

I hate this waiting.

You and me both. I really look forward to play my first seasonal character :-)

End of Season Stash Mailed
Some details were provided about the end of Season 1, and how items from the stash will be transferred to the non-Season part of a Diablo III account. The mailbox that provides the Collector's Edition items will transfer all those items, making it easy for players to collect.
Items will be mailed to you using the same system that delivers Collector's Edition items. You'll have a small envelope button in the lower, left hand corner, and you'll have 30 days to reclaim any items mailed to you in this manner when the Season concludes.

In addition, a new stash tab is being made available in Patch 2.1.0 for players with the Reaper of Souls expansion. If you unlock tabs during a Season that you do not already have unlocked for your non-Seasonal characters, they will rollover to your non-Seasonal characters when the Season ends.

I think if I crammed more Seasons in that sentence, I'd age a year. ;P The end-of-Season process can be a little confusing to explain, but I hope this makes some sense!

PTR Closing Down
The patch 2.1.0 Public Test Realm has been the longest running test for a Diablo III patch to date. All good things must come to an end, and with the patch now ready for release, the PTR is closed.
In preparation for the launch of Patch 2.1.0, the PTR servers will be brought offline this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. PT. At that time, players will no longer be able to log in to the PTR client, all PTR accounts (including character information) will be reset, and our PTR forums will be marked as read-only.

We'd like to thank everyone who participated in the Patch 2.1.0 PTR. You've done an awesome job of testing the new content, and we greatly appreciate the feedback you provided during this phase of the game’s development.

We look forward to releasing Patch 2.1.0 to the public shortly. We hope you all enjoy Greater Rifts, Seasons, and all the other content included in this update. We’ll see you in Sanctuary soon!

Patch 2.1.0 Can Take up to 30 Minutes to Install
Patch 2.1.0 comes with optimization to help reduce the lag in the game. That process may take up 30 minutes while the patch is being installed.
Hey everyone!

Patch 2.1.0 is on its way, and we wanted to give you all a quick heads up about the size of this patch and the anticipated time required to fully apply it.

While the patch itself is not very large (300 MB), it will be making several changes to the game files stored on your computer. As a result, the patch installation phase may take up to 30 minutes to finish once the patch has been downloaded. Please note that, during this process, your Battle.net Desktop Application will note that it's "installing 12.4GB." This message is simply referencing the unpacking of the new patch file and the re-configuration of existing Diablo III files on your computer. The actual amount of new data on your computer will be significantly smaller.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and look forward to seeing you in Sanctuary soon!

Stormshield Not Dropping in 2.1.0
The Legendary shield Stormshield has a display bug in patch 2.1.0 that makes it appear as if the item properties have been rerolled. Until this bug can be fixed with another client patch, the shield will not drop.
Hello everyone,

As a quick FYI, we wanted to make you all aware of a bug going live in patch 2.1.0 that will cause the Legendary shield, Stormshield, to display incorrect affix rolls.

For those of you who have a Stormshield and update the game to patch 2.1.0, the shield will appear as though its stats have been rerolled, even though the stats themselves have not actually changed. (Exception: Any affixes which are enchanted will not be affected and will display as normal.)

While this is a display issue only, we have temporarily disabled Stormshield from dropping until the bug can be fixed. With this, when the bug is fixed, your Stormshield will again show the correct stats as they were before patch 2.1.0 launched.

We will be correcting this bug in a future client patch (unfortunately it cannot be hotfixed), but do not have an ETA to share at this time. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and thank you for your patience!

Update: Added a few more late breaking posts about Patch 2.1.0.
