Diablo III Patch 2.0.1 Is Live Today

The 'Loot 2.0' patch hits the live servers on Tuesday, and here are all the latest updates for it.

Twitter - Patch 2.0 Going Live
The wait is almost over, as Diablo III patch 2.0.1 goes live today! Confirmed by Diablo III lead producer Alex Mayberry on Twitter, the massive patch is scheduled to during a lengthy server downtime on Tuesday. This is the long-awaited Loot 2.0 patch, that also brings an overhaul to the Paragon system, changes to skills and runes for all classes, a new Dynamic Difficulty system, Clans and Communities, and updates to gameplay across the board. It is appropriate that patch 2.0 will go in today, which is exactly one month before the arrival of the Reaper of Souls Expansion.

We will have the Diablo III 2.0.1 patch notes once they're available, although in the meantime you can look back through the patch 2.0 patch notes from the PTR: the initial PTR 2.0 release, the PTR patches 1, 2, 3, and the PTR hotfixes. You can also see the patch 2.0 news archive for details on the patch overall, such as the overviews for the Clans and Communities and Paragon 2.0.

Diablo III game director Josh Mosqueira also took to Twitter, where he has renamed his account to ReaperOfPatches, to share his excitement about the patch 2.0 release date having arrived. (As is standard with the patches to Blizzard games, Diablo III patch 2.0 is released today on the Americas server, and should arrive on Wednesday in the European region.)

The patch will be installed on the live servers during lengthy server maintenance. Here are the details about that maintenance; if there are more blue posts in the thread, this news will automatically update accordingly.
We will be performing maintenance beginning on Tuesday, February 25th at 1:00 AM PST and we expect the service to be available again at approximately 11:00 AM PST. During this time the game and many web services will be unavailable.

Thank you for your patience.
The maintenance period has been extended until approximately 3:00 PM PST. We apologize for any inconvenience and will provide additional updates as they become available.

Thank you very much for your continued patience.

Maintenance has completed.

See you all in game!

Patch 2.0.1 uses the new Battle.net Desktop App updater, and will perform optimization to your Diablo III installation, which makes the entire process take longer than a standard patch. You can review the details, and get ready for a monumental Diablo III patch!

Update Tuesday, February 25: The patch has been applied to the servers, and can be downloaded and installed, bringing the Diablo III client to version 2.0.1.22044. The server maintenance time has been extended, as the massive patch is fully rolled out. As noted above, there is a lengthy optimization process when installing patch 2.0.1. If you run into problems with that process, see the optimization support help. For other installation and patch problems, check out the technical support articles or the tech support forum.

Update 2: Here's another blue post about the extended server maintenance for the patch 2.0.1 release:
Update 2/27/2014 @ 10:33 a.m. PT

We've investigated various different options for fixing the issue that's causing players to be unable to buy or sell gold on the real-money auction house. Unfortunately, this issue cannot be hotfixed and will require a small client-side patch to resolve fully. We are working developing that patch as we speak, but do not have an ETA to share at this time.

Update 2/25/2014 @ 9:40 p.m. PT

The gold and real-money auction houses are now live. (They've actually be live for a while now.)

Please note: The ability to buy and sell gold on the real-money auction house is currently unavailable. We’re in the process of investigating this issue, but do not have an ETA as to when it may be resolved. It’s very likely that our investigation will need to continue through tomorrow, and there is also a possibility that the issue may require a small patch to address. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

As more updates become available, we’ll be sure to provide them in this thread.

Update 2/25/2014 @ 06:50 p.m. PT:

For clarity, the gold and real-money auction house are still undergoing maintenance at this time, and we will provide an update once the service is available again.

Update 2/25/2014 @ 02:20 p.m. PT:

Hey everyone! I’ve got a new update regarding today’s maintenance.

Earlier today, we discovered a hardware issue while conducting internal testing on patch 2.0.1. We’re currently working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, but the issue itself is going to require significant time to address and additional downtime will be needed. As a result, the earliest we anticipate servers will be available is 8:00 PM PST. For players living in other regions, here’s a great resource to determine how this translates to your specific time zone: http://everytimezone.com/

We’re really looking forward to players getting a chance to explore and enjoy patch 2.0.1, and are working diligently to bring the game online as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. Please stay tuned to this thread for updates!

In the meantime, we’ve gone ahead and published the patch 2.0.1 notes on our game site here. Note that we will be adding the full list of character changes in later, and will be sure to provide an update once that information is available.

Update 2/25/2014 @ 1:35 p.m. PT:

Just reposting this here so that everyone can see:

Due to maintenance, our game site is currently unable to access the hero data to publish online, which means that some hero profiles may appear "empty." As long as we are in maintenance, it’s likely that hero profiles will be in a state of flux and not always display the correct information.

Sorry for any confusion or minor panic this may have caused. To help reduce any further confusion, we've also brought hero profiles into maintenance as well and will bring them back online after the game servers are live.

Good morning, everyone!

We're currently in the process of deploying patch 2.0.1; however, during the initial deployment stages of the patch, we encountered some unexpected issues which have delayed its release. To ensure these issues are resolved as quickly and as thoroughly as possible, today's maintenance has been extended for 4 hours. At this point, we anticipate that maintenance will conclude and the game will be live at approximately 3:00 PM PST. We'll be sure to provide an update if that schedule changes.

Thanks so much for your patience, and we look forward to seeing you in Sanctuary!

Patch Info:
  • Patch notes are available in the Battle.net desktop app as well as on our game site. If the notes aren't displaying for you, log out and back in. They should appear in the main "spotlight" window on the left.
  • Patch 2.0.1 known issues can be viewed here.

Update 3: Check out the Diablo III Patch 2.0.1 Patch Notes for the many changes in the new patch!

Update 4: The Blizzard Customer Service for EU has provided details on the European server downtime to apply patch 2.0.1. The scheduled maintenance time on Wednesday for the EU Diablo III servers is from 03:00 to 11:00 CET.

Update 5: The server maintenance has been extended again, out to 8PM Pacific time.

There is a lot of new info to read in the meantime, with updates to the official Diablo III game guide, skill calculator, and items database.

Embrace the ever-changing world of Sanctuary. The Diablo III game guide has just been updated with information on the pre-expansion 2.0.1 patch. This update applies to the PC version of Diablo III and will be downloadable as soon as you open the game launcher or Battle.net desktop app.

Class pages, skill calculators, and our Items database have been updated with the game informaiton, as well.

We're always looking for ways to expand and improve the guide with answers to all of your questions. If there are any particular aspects of the game you're curious about, let us know in the comments!

Update 6: The Diablo III servers are now live in the Americas region, with patch 2.0.1! That will wrap up this news, with one final warning - after patching to 2.0.1, do not try to switch servers to the European or Asian regions that are still on patch 1.0.8.
If you have logged in and patched to 2.0.1, we recommend that you do not switch regions until patching has concluded (across all regions). If you do so, you may encounter an issue which will require you to completely reinstall the game files.
