Problems logging into a game with any other OL program running(1)Category: Technical SupportJanuary-19-2016 11:46 AM PST (8 years ago) Go to Blizzard forum post
Hello there.

For months now, my wife and I have had problems logging into a game of Diablo 3 if we're doing anything else OL other than JUST playing Diablo 3. This was not a concern when the game first came out, nor was it a concern when the expansion came out. This is a 'recent' occurrence which we've tried to overcome for several months now to no avail.

When either of us first try to log into/start our own game, the program will start the process, lag up for upwards of thirty seconds, and then when the game does appear to load, an error message stating "the game connection has been lost: your client has been disconnected from the server." occurs and it sends us back to the character screen. The only time this DOESN'T occur is if Diablo 3 is the only program running which interacts with the network. Even then, the game has been increasingly laggy with higher than normal latency.

My wife runs on a laptop and I run on a desktop. She uses a wireless connection and I use an ethernet cable. We both get the same issue. We've spoken to our internet provider and they don't see anything wrong with our network - we get the download and upload speeds we should be getting, shown through several different speed tests. They sent out a technician regardless and they supported what they saw over the phone. We've reset the modem/router and configured it for static IPs to facilitate not having IP issues. That really only leaves difficulties with the Diablo 3 servers at this point.

I really love this game but it's becoming increasingly problematic to play. What is it you can suggest so my household no longer has these issues?

We've reset the modem/router

Hello Falrei,

What you're describing sounds a lot like an issue with the modem/router. What kind is it? Can you identify the model number? Are you both connected to it, or are you connecting through a router first, and then to a modem?

I would double-check with Netgear to be sure your CG3000DV220 has the latest firmware.

My wife is using the Wifi and I'm using an ethernet cable.

Let's try setting your network card to a particular speed - I'd try 100 Mbps Full Duplex first, and if that doesn't work, I'd 10 Mbps Full Duplex.

Is there any possible way you could exchange the Netgear modem with your ISP for a different model?

My wife runs on a laptop and I run on a desktop.

we bought the Netgear unit ourselves, so we'd have to purchase another outright to 'test' (which we've thought about doing but we wanted to verify it was one of the last options before spending that kind of money).

That's definitely understandable. Have you had an opportunity to test the laptop or even your desktop, on a different Internet connection, for comparison?
