The world of Sanctuary is a BIG place, defended by hundreds of thousands of heroes each and every day. To help you get to know some of these fellow nephalem a little better, we've created the Fresh Meat N' Greet.

The Fresh Meet N' Greet is a recurring series of interviews featuring you, our community. A few times each month, we'll sit down and chat with six different community members, one for each class, and then post our Q&As right here in these forums.

Up this week for Witch Doctors: ButteryNub#1175

Read on below to find out more about your fellow ally in battle!

[GENERAL INFO]

Grimiku: Tell us a bit about yourself.

ButteryNub#1175: Is this an a/s/l question? 32/M/WI…man, I miss Yahoo! Chatrooms.

My name is Ryan, but only my family and coworkers actually call me that. Professionally, I am a Chemistry teacher, which is a super rad job. In my leisure, depending on the day and my mood, I am one of my many heroes in the Diabloverse.

Grimiku: Got any cool hobbies or talents?

ButteryNub#1175: You know, I used to have talents, I really did. I was heavy into art when I was younger, but now my skills only get put to use when I am doodling on a piece of paper as I monitor tests…this is a great trick to make students think you are taking notes on their behavior. D:

As for hobbies, I like gardening. Indoor, outdoor, it doesn’t matter. I am a bit of a treehugger, you know, so I like to feel connected to the Earth. Living in the city, working long hours, and having to commute a decent amount everyday really starts to diminish those feelings of connectedness, so, I garden and meander around my yard to help rebuild that connection.

And I can crush seasons of TV shows like no ones business.

Grimiku: What’s your history as a gamer, and with the Diablo franchise?

ButteryNub#1175: When I was a young buck we would visit my pop’s friend’s house a lot. He had an Atari and the first game I rocked out to was Pong.

One day I came home from school to find an NES and the first TMNT game on my table. I set that up and instantly got hooked on gaming. From then on, it was game over…so many times “Game Over.” (Cue the music and intro screen.)

I was first introduced to Diablo shortly after it came out, but I didn’t have a computer in my house, so I had to go to my friend’s pad and play when he took a break, which was pretty much never. I did get the game on PS1 when it finally came out. A buddy and I plowed through that in 2-player mode. Then D2 came out and it was on. I still didn’t have a computer, but I would crash at a different friend’s house for days on end. We would take 4-hour shifts, rotating between playing and napping while we waited for the other’s time to be up. D3 finally dropped, after much anticipation, and I bought that a computer to run it. And here I am, still jamming out.

Grimiku: What are some of your favorite games?

ButteryNub#1175: As a kid I was addicted to the 1942 arcade game. I would try to set the high score (I never did) while my parents bowled on the local lanes. The original Grand Theft Auto will always have a special place in my heart. That game was so under-the-radar, but holy balls was it awesome. My favorite console has always been, at least since its release, the SEGA Dreamcast. Phantasy Star Online and Power Stone, ftw.

During college I was all-in on CoD: BlOps (2.47 K/D what?!), MW3, and BlOps3.

And finally, my all time favorite game: Guardian Heroes (SEGA Saturn). That was such a gnarly game with so much replay value. I don’t care what you say about classic side-scrollers, this game rocked harder than them all.

*An honorable mention must go out to Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style. I am a huge hip-hop head, so getting to smash on goonss with the Rza, the Gza, Ol Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killah and the M.E.T.H.O.D MAAAAN was what’s up. (Shout out to the Master of Mantis Rature comin’ at ’cha!)

Grimiku: Do you play any other classes?

ButteryNub#1175: WD has actually been on the backburner this patch, mostly because of the downshift that Jade took. So, this patch I have put a lot of time into all of the other classes. I mostly play on my Monk (seasons) and DH (nonseasons). Right now with my need for mats (patch prep) I feel obligated to play something that can cruise and both those classes are tops for that.

Grimiku: Are you in a great clan or community? If yes, tell us about them!

ButteryNub#1175: I sure am. Like many of the other Meet-n-Greeters, I am in Forsaken Voodoo (VUDU). We started out as thee forum WD clan. Another forum WD clan, MOJO, started up as an overflow clan, too, but hrough the times clan sizes decreased and we ended up merging the two. It’s a great bunch and that camaraderie remains one of my biggest motivators to play.

Grimiku: What's your most embarrassing moment while playing?

ButteryNub#1175: I’m not entirely sure how, but on my first HC attempt (as a Barb) I bit the dust at level 14. I walked away from HC with my tail between my legs and wouldn’t think of going back to it for a long while. (I eventually did, but a Ice shot to the back from Rime sent me back to normal.)

Grimiku: Okay, what about your most AWESOME moment while playing?

ButteryNub#1175: After 667 paragon levels, a lot of whiny forum posts, and too many trolling ceremonial knife drops, I finally found an SMK. It wasn’t as glorious as I expected, since I was so burnt out looking for it and I had seen everyone else putting it to use, but it was absolutely the most liberating thing that has happened to me in D3.

This patch (2.2), I pushed all the classes to GR50, which I was pretty proud of.

[MY STRIKE IS TRUE]

Grimiku: What drew you to the Witch Doctor?

ButteryNub#1175: Back on vanilla release, I was playing a game (as a monk) with a couple of my friends and one of their brothers joined our game (as a WD). The first time I saw Zombie Bears blow up a mob of enemies I knew I had to try the class out. So, I made a WD and have been playing it ever since. Bears, Bats, and Zero Dogs back in 1.08 really got me hooked, and then Jade in 2.0 solidified WD as my favorite class.

Grimiku: What’s the voodoo that you do: do you drain your foes' life force over time, unleash your minions upon them, or call forth a surge of power to crush them?

ButteryNub#1175: These days, when I play WD, the build I choose really depends on my objective. If I am going to play T6 I will use the speed-farming In-geom Jade build. If I am in a party, I rock the LockDoc (straight lunchin’ on that XP bonus). If I plan to push GRs, I have no option but to play Carn.

Grimiku: What's your favorite skill (or skill rune), and why?

ButteryNub#1175: If I go OG, I have to say Zombie Bears. The animation, sound effects, and AoE for ZBears are so sick.

If we are taking RoS to present, I couldn’t pinpoint a specific skill because all of the skills that make Jade function are necessary. Nothing is more satisfying than hitting that Soul Harvest button and watching mobs disappear.

Grimiku: What build are you running currently?

ButteryNub#1175: I have three WDs, currently. (Recently deleted the 4th). I mostly play Carn or Lockdoc.

Grimiku: Is there a particular item that you’re currently after? How would it change things for you if you found it?

ButteryNub#1175: Honestly I have everything I need, but a nice 3.3k DPS DoD would be a nice boost. It would definitely be the motivation I need to keep pushing up the leaderboards.

Grimiku: If there was one thing you could change about the Witch Doctor, what would it be?

ButteryNub#1175: That’s a hard question to answer right now. However, in my eyes, there are two glaring things that irk me:

1. With the new cheat death passives all the other classes have, I would change the Spirit Vessel cooldown to 60 seconds so it is aligned with the other class’s cheat deaths. Seems like we are getting cheated a bit, especially since the changes to Spirit Walk. Before you could manage a 90 second timer because you could decrease SW’s cooldown via Grave Injustice, which was a huge part of the WD’s survivability. That isn’t the case now, so…

2. If that change couldn’t happen, then I would revert Spirit Walk back to its original state. I can see why skills like Serenity and Smoke Screen got changed, because they could be abused (perm-immunity…not so much now for Smoke Screen). However, no WD who is pushing GRs is getting close enough to mobs, killing mobs fast enough to constantly proc GI, or able to stack enough CDR to keep SW up permanently. That change ripped Jade Harvester right out of relevancy.

Grimiku: If you could build a Set or Legendary item to support a skill, what skill would it be and how would you support it?

ButteryNub#1175: Glad you asked! I actually have a thread going right now asking for a set that is focused on our underused pets, Dogs and Gargantuan. Here it is:

2pc: Your dog(s) and gargantuan(s) gain 100% damage when you equip TMF. Your dog(s) and gargantuan(s) gain an additional 100% when you equip SMF.
(Tweak as necessary for competitive damage output.)
4pc: Double the number of Gargantuans you summon. (Rune dictated summons)
6pc: When Tall Man's finger and Short Man’s Finger are equipped, you gain as many big dogs as you would have normal dogs, each of whose damage is equal to that of a single big dog. You can no longer summon fetishes. (Rune dictated summons)

And then a support item:

Bracers- Double the number of Zombie Dogs you can summon.

Don’t even front, you know you want to run around with 12 big dogs and 6 heavy hitting Wrathful Protectors out.

Grimiku: Pick a Witch Doctor quote!

ButteryNub#1175: “I do not have enough mana.”

Grimiku: Name one piece of advice that you think every Witch Doctor should know.

ButteryNub#1175: Our community is very friendly and most of us are willing to help you clarify anything that may be confusing you. Don’t be afraid to post here! However, if you want direction, and since you have made it this far, please see the breadth of knowledge we have collected regarding the class. Reaper666 has put in a lot of work organizing the info in this thread:

[WHO'S NEXT?]

Grimiku: Which Witch Doctor should we interview next?

ButteryNub#1175: Rookfire#1611

Grimiku: Pick a question to ask in the next interview:

ButteryNub#1175: Answer honestly, how much excitement do you get from purging inactives from the clan?

Grimiku: Nesa#1136: What would it take to keep you playing a WD as your main?

ButteryNub#1175: Jade becoming relevant again would be a giant step in getting me to spend more time on my Docs. A pet build that isn’t fetish-centric would be a huge. Fetishes aren’t one of my fetishes…I like dogs. Wait, what?
