The world of Sanctuary is a BIG place, defended by hundreds of thousands of heroes each and every day. To help you get to know some of these fellow nephalem a little better, we've created the Fresh Meat N' Greet.

The Fresh Meet N' Greet is a recurring series of interviews featuring you, our community. A few times each month, we'll sit down and chat with six different community members, one for each class, and then post our Q&As right here in these forums.

Up this week for Witch Doctors: Nesa#1136

Read on below to find out more about your fellow ally in battle!

[GENERAL INFO]

Grimiku: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Nesa#1136: I’m an old gamer with not as much time as I like or used to have to play. Now I play mostly solo since I don’t like to bail on people and like to play on my own terms. I still like to theorycraft and min/max, so I’m happy to talk about my gaming hobby and do it as well as I can with what time that I have.

Grimiku: Got any cool hobbies or talents?

Nesa#1136: Cool? No, not really. I’m fairly geeky. Unless you consider getting lost link-hopping in Wikipedia for hours on end to be cool, lol.

Grimiku: What’s your history as a gamer, and with the Diablo franchise?

Nesa#1136: I’ve been playing games since I was ~6 (just turned 40), so since the Atari2600 days. I’ve seen a lot of games and trends come and go over the years.

I played a lot of Diablo1 (and Half-Life1/DescentI/II!) primarily in LAN sessions, not much D2 (the fault of EQ consuming my life, then WoW), and swapped to D3 when I got tired of playing WoW.

I was looking to go back to a solo game without entanglements that I could play on my own terms/time. Wife, kids, job tend to force that on you eventually.

Grimiku: What are some of your favorite games?

Nesa#1136: So many to choose from… Ultima 6 & 7, X-wing vs Tie Fighter, WarCraft3, Star Craft, Civ3/4/5, WingCommander3, Ninja GaidenII, Fallout series, Assassin’s Creed, Half-Life II, DOOM, Halo series, Deus Ex, too many other to list I’ve probably forgotten.

And I spent more time than I’d care to admit playing MMORPGs (primarily EQ, DAoC, and WoW).

Grimiku: Do you play any other classes?

Nesa#1136: Mostly Barbarian this Era (don’t play Seasons), but still my WD(s) when I get tired of spinning. I think the dev team did a good job with the ease of play, power level, and build diversity possible around the Wrath of the Wastes set, combined with Immortal Kings and Bul-Kathos revamps.

Here’s to hoping John Yang can work the same magic on Helltooth in Season4!! Maybe I’ll even dare to dream about a Manajuma’s set revamp?!?

Grimiku: Are you in a great clan or community? If yes, tell us about them!

Nesa#1136: Yes (<Sleeping Soul>), but it is a small friends and family guild and sadly no-one else is really playing anymore so it’s just me most of the time.

Grimiku: What's your most embarrassing moment while playing?

Nesa#1136: Definitely when I forget to swap gear/skills when I change content… hard to come up with something ‘embarrassing’ when I’ve been doing this so long.

How about a load-out swapping UI (passives, skills, gear) for each character?

Grimiku: Okay, what about your most AWESOME moment while playing?

Nesa#1136: I really do like it when the density in Greater Rifts is SUPER INSANE, reminds me of playing Diablo in the past and even how it was in MP10 vanilla days. How you are literally a god among men, smiting demons by the screen-full.

[MY STRIKE IS TRUE]

Grimiku: What drew you to the Witch Doctor?

Nesa#1136: I originally didn’t much care for the aesthetic and I played Wizard primarily in vanilla.

After RoS and transmog I really came to like the class from a playstyle level (and I could use my Wizard gear) and found that I did actually like a lot of the Voodoo Mask artwork. I think the male character originally turned me off for the most part.

Grimiku: What’s the voodoo that you do: do you drain your foes' life force over time, unleash your minions upon them, or call forth a surge of power to crush them?

Nesa#1136: Mostly pet-docs, but I’d love to see caster builds (zombie bears, acid-cloud, firebats) make a comeback. I like the ‘swarm of pets overwhelming your foes’ aesthetic. Pet AI and collision definitely needs a re-think though as pets end up scaling inversely with number and hit-box size, especially since we always seem to be playing in narrow corridors more often than not in Greater Rifts.

Jade was a cool and unique playstyle that got nerf-batted into irrelevancy, which was really too bad considering what has been done for other classes/sets.

In a similar vein, DoTs are another unique niche for WDs, but sadly they do not really scale very well at end-game even with the Jade set and recent changes made to turn haunt into a sustained nuke. This seems like a design miss to me considering how close this playstyle is (or could be) to a WoW affliction Warlock (multidotting rot class with pets).

Grimiku: What's your favorite skill (or skill rune), and why?

Nesa#1136: I’d have to go with Gargantuan: Wrathful Protector. He looks great and hits like a truck (or rather, he did before they nerfed the heck out of him). I wish their AI/collision was better and base damage was higher so I could actually use a SMF without feeling like I’m losing in power vs alternatives.

Grimiku: What build are you running currently?

Nesa#1136: I have 5 WDs, so I have most of them covered. I have a Carn-doc, a melee pet doc, a jade doc (mostly for speed T6 runs these days), and some mules set up with ancient Helltooth and misc legendaries I hope will be good in future patches. Too many mules, not enough stash space. =(

Grimiku: Is there a particular item that you’re currently after? How would it change things for you if you found it?

Nesa#1136: I’m still chasing an ancient SMK. It wouldn’t change anything; just let me get another few Greater Rift levels on my pet melee doc.

Ancient weapons in general were not implemented well, the +damage range should never have been increased, it’s too much of a power increase in 1 slot vs what ancient means for any other slot where it’s mostly a small power bump ‘nice to have’, the weapon is a 20-30% increase in 1 slot and it’s too much. It really amount to another 1:10 chance to get a ‘decent’ weapon.

Mojo’s are in the same position for the same reason, but about half the effect of the main hand weapon. Difference is that with Kadala you can target mojos and the cost is reasonable, weapons (at least class specific ones) should be broken down for each class similar to how they are effectively are for DH.

Incidentally, this is also the reason I don’t play Seasons, I don’t see the point of grinding out all those rare drops for the nth time.

Grimiku: If there was one thing you could change about the Witch Doctor, what would it be?

Nesa#1136: Better AoE.

Grimiku: If you could build a Set or Legendary item to support a skill, what skill would it be and how would you support it?

Nesa#1136: I would have made Zunimassa’s support all pets not just fetishes. Further I would have made the 6p bonus a buff on the pet doc instead of a debuff on mobs. I also would not have tied it to spenders as the trigger or I would have increased the duration of the buff.

For something new, I’d make an actual poison based set that works with our decay set of skills (acid cloud/zombie bears), but that sounds like where Helltooth is going.

Grimiku: Pick a Witch Doctor quote!

Nesa#1136: The truth burns you!

Grimiku: Name one piece of advice that you think every Witch Doctor should know.

Nesa#1136: Convention of Elements ring does not interact with Fetish Sycophants passive- it doesn’t make the type of FS summoned change elemental type.

[WHO'S NEXT?]

Grimiku: Which Witch Doctor should we interview next?

Nesa#1136: ButteryNugs#1889

Grimiku: Pick a question to ask in the next interview:

Nesa#1136: What would it take to keep you playing a WD as your main?

Grimiku: angBahadur#1968 asks: What's the most important question for you in life?

Nesa#1136: What am I going to be when I grow up? =P
