The world of Sanctuary is a BIG place, defended by hundreds of thousands of heroes each and every day. To help you get to know some of these fellow nephalem a little better, we've created the Fresh Meat N' Greet.

The Fresh Meet N' Greet is a recurring series of interviews featuring you, our community. A few times each month, we'll sit down and chat with six different community members, one for each class, and then post our Q&As right here in these forums.

Up this week for Witch Doctors: PaulNg#6869

Read on below to find out more about your fellow ally in battle!

[GENERAL INFO]

Grimiku: Tell us a bit about yourself.

PaulNg: Just a regular non-competitive gamer.

Grimiku: Got any cool hobbies or talents?

PaulNg: Messing around with things or systems to find out how they work.

Grimiku: How long have you been playing Diablo games?

PaulNg: Since the original Diablo with 3 characters.

Grimiku: What other games are you currently playing right now (if any)?

PaulNg: None.

Grimiku: Do you play any other classes?

PaulNg: No.

Grimiku: Are you in a great clan or community? If yes, tell us about them!

PaulNg: From Forsaken Voodoo or <VUDU>. We’re the remnants or remaining folks who play WD as the main character, and we comprise mostly of players from the WD sub-forums. Most of us have multiple WDs for different styles of play and gear set-up. Happy to see the numerous changes and improvements made to the class, bringing many fresh players and clan members. This game is definitely more fun when running in groups.

Grimiku: What achievement do you have that you’re the most proud of?

PaulNg: Not really an achievement, but being part of a wonderful community that has the game developers respond and improve on the ways of the WD speaks really well for the game, the community and the developers.

Grimiku: What's your most embarrassing moment while playing?

PaulNg: There were many embarrassing situations where I (or we) were supposed to help another player, and kept dying for messing around with builds or being lazy and careless. Luckily we’re not playing Hardcore mode.

Grimiku: Okay, what about your most AWESOME moment while playing?

PaulNg: Finding my first ever Starmetal Kukri. To be honest, this reflects badly on the game design, if finding one item is regarded as awesome. In a good game, there should be many different aspects where different players can regard as awesome moments.

Grimiku: Who’s your favorite fictional doctor (from literature, movies, television, video games, etc)?

PaulNg: None.

[MY STRIKE IS TRUE]

Grimiku: What drew you to the Witch Doctor?

PaulNg: Tried various classes in the Diablo series, in D3 I’ve opted to be a “summoner” and have my pets do the combat for me. Waited a really long time for Pet Builds to finally be “viable”.

Grimiku: What’s the voodoo that you do: do you drain your foes' life force over time, unleash your minions upon them, or call forth a surge of power to crush them?

PaulNg: Definitely the minions.

Grimiku: What's your favorite skill (or skill rune), and why?

PaulNg: Big Bad Voodoo – Slam Dance. The best for multi-player support. Will be much better if the totem is smart enough to follow the WD around, or simply let the area of effect take reference from the WD.

Grimiku: What build are you running currently?

PLAYER: A mixture of Fire and Physical pets – Burning Dog, Wrathful Protector and Sycophants.

Grimiku: If there was one thing you could change about the Witch Doctor, what would it be?

PaulNg: This will be a long answer. The class (and game) needs to be rewarding game play and not trading (auction house) or gambling (Kadala). I have 3 recommendations that will combine well to achieve the said objective:

1) Have one NPC to allow players to pick a specific legendary or set item as the reward, and then have the NPC lay out the objectives of the quest or mission. If all the players choose the same 1 or 2 items, it is a clear signal that the design team has failed in planning their items. The quest or mission can be “to clear all quests from Act 1 through Act 5, in Torment 6 difficulty of the Campaign mode” as an example. With the Campaign mode, all the relevant checkpoints and quest markers are already in place for the developers to plan the NPC requirements for corresponding reward of the item. Checks should be made to ensure that players cannot abuse short cuts or seek help and waypoints from other players to accomplish the quest. It has to be really the effort of the player in clearing game content.

2) Similar to the method of implementation above, allow Mystic to roll an additional (or additional 2) properties of the item. To unlock the ability to roll, the player must complete the tasks assigned by the Mystic. This will remove much of the “trash” items that players complain about, and will allow an item to grow with the player. If a player likes a particular item so much, he/she will put in the effort to morph it into a really good item.

3) Using a method to track the frequency of skill and rune usage, we now consider the skill build and play style that different players enjoy. We consider that all the skills throughout the 6 classes have [Tooltip] as unique characteristic of each skill and rune. Using an unbiased scaling multiplier, the team of developers can have one NPC to upgrade the skill or rune [Tooltip] such that a practitioner of the skill and style can enhance the effectiveness of that skills Damage, Toughness or Healing, through accumulating experience in using that skill. It does not have to be game-changing or very powerful, but allowing a player that has used Haunt for 200 hours to output slightly higher damage than another player who just started to put Haunt on his/her skill bar can be a method for rewarding players who actually play the game.

The intent is to reward, in a meaningful way, players who are willing to put in the effort to have their skills and items grow with them. All your ladder boards and ranking system will be abused through some exploit, bug or bot. By rewarding players for playing exactly the way they enjoy, with the items that they want to forge, it is my humble opinion that your game will establish a far wider base of loyal fans. Nobody plays Diablo for the ranking. It has always been the loot, gear and skills, with the pre-requisite that they find it fun and rewarding.

Grimiku: Name one piece of advice that you think every Witch Doctor should know.

PaulNg: We get repeated topics on a daily basis. Please read Reaper666’s compilation of information and builds (the Sticky Thread at the top of the front page). He has put in a lot of effort to compile and maintain updated information. Although there are many helpful forum regulars, replying to the same repeated questions can get tiring.

Grimiku: Which Witch Doctor minion would want as a pet in real life?

PaulNg: The Dog - loyal and dependable.

[WHO'S NEXT?]

Grimiku:Which Witch Doctor should we also interview?

PaulNg: There are many, but if I am allowed to suggest only one name, I’d say Rakimallah. That guy is known for “weird builds” and all things unconventional. Should be interesting for readers.

Grimiku:What’s one question you’d like to ask this person in our next interview?

PaulNg: When are we going to get Rakimallah’s Gift to add 3 sockets to our weapons? It’s a WD-only item.

Whoa... I think they did reward me for the "delay". I looted 3 Ramadlani Gifts all within the same day!

Nice! Did you use them all up or are you saving them for a future item?
